Well....I guess third time's a charm as they say. I've already tried to create a blog 2 times now and this is my third attempt. Let's hope that atleast this one sees the light of day. I mean, come on, 2 attempts already and neither attaining fruition. Something's gotta be wrong with me right? Right!
So, there I was sprawled on my bed at 1 o' clock in the afternoon drowsy as a well-fed Egyptian cat. You might ask me what the hell was I doing sprawled on the bed feeling drowsy at 1 o' clock. Well, you would understand too if you went to bed at 4 a.m. the previous night (no wait, that's not right!). It's 4 a.m that morning and woke up at 9 a.m. the same day. That's like 5 hours of sleep. Of course that's not enough sleep for a young guy like me wouldn't you say. Yeah, so now you know why I was drowsy at 1 o' clock.
That ain't the point actually. The point is, once I dozed off into the ignorant bliss called sleep I had a dream. And you wouldn't believe who came in my dream. It was "Sawyer". Yes, yes the very same James "Sawyer" Ford of "Lost" fame. Now, why oh why, would I dream of Sawyer. Hmm...I'll tell you why. 4 days of Lost will do that to anyone. Yes, 4 days. I was also a fan of lost in the beginning but then somehow I lost track of "Lost". It was because they were simply bringing in new twists and loose ends without first finishing off the previous ones. After a point of time it just became too burdensome to keep track of all the twists and turns. So I had stopped watching it.
Recently I came to know that the 4th season of Lost was out. And that got me interested. I thought "Let's find out how they're gonna answer all those annoying questions that I have about that friggin' island?" And so, I began catching up. I started with where I had left off: Season 2 Episode 8; and after 4 days and 40 1-hour long episodes of Lost later I was left with more questions than I started with. So I finished season 3 with my head reeling and my brain smarting from all that was happening in that God-forsaken Island. But the finale of Season 3 really threw me off-guard. For those of you who haven't seen it and are gonna see it
***Spoiler Warning***
When I saw Jack with a fullgrown beard and drunk and drugged, I was like what the hell? Is this the guy who was leading the survivors? Is he the one who's gonna take them to safety? Was this the fellow who I felt sorry for when his wife, whom he incidentally saved, left him for another man? And in the flashback when I saw Jack meeting Kate I was like WHOA! This ain't a flashback dude. It's a flashforward. That was simply awesome.
***/END Spoiler Warning***
You really have to love Lost for all those moments when you think "Did I see what I thought I saw?" and then you go back and watch it again just to be sure. Well, you would think my Lost marathon would be over with that didn't you? Atleast until I had the 4th season in hand. How wrong you are? I go and switch on the TV and what should be on the tele but a 2-hr special on Lost. It's like a recap of all what had happened in the first 3 seasons. And I sat and watched it as well.
So now you can't blame me for getting a dream about Sawyer. What happened in the dream is totally irrelevant as all dreams of this kind are.
Thinking back, I can't see much of a difference between the survivors on that island and all of us who are not on the island. Maybe that's the point I'm tying to make here. We are all survivors. We are all lost in a certain sense. Isn't the aim of life to find your path, to find your way? How different are we from those people then? They live each day with the fear of not knowing what's gonna happen next. So do we. Except that fear of what's gonna happen next is not instilled as deep in our minds as it is in theirs. Why should it be you may ask? Well, if you get that fear, the fear of impending danger, impending death, then you will realize how you relish a drop of water, a breath of air, a morsel of food.
The ultimate aim for the people on that island is getting rescued. What is our ultimate aim? To earn lots of money, to buy a big house, to raise a good family, to be in a satisfying job, to reach heaven?? What are all these but we earning to be rescued from destitution, starvation, and sinning! The Island is a microcosm of our life on Earth. Most of all, I think the series teaches us how to live as a society. It is a role model of an egalitarian society. There are situations when certain bad things happen but overall its all about how they look out for one another, how they protect the helpless and the sick, how total strangers form close bonds of friendship and love, and how they come together to fight off any threat that the society may face.
Where is this social bonding in today's world? We all remain aloof in our own shells with our own group of people, be it family or friends and refuse to come out of that enclosed shell where we feel safe and secure. We don't stand up for some stranger on the road who's been wronged, for a person who's been conned. We don't fight for other's rights, we don't do things which are beneficial to our society as a whole. Why? Because we are all too busy taking care of ourselves and our close relations. Our reason being, "I don't have time for this. I have much more important things to do." Maybe you do but how many times do we realize that a good deed we do for our society is in turn a good deed we do unto ourselves.
Maybe the people on the island do what they do because they have nothing else better to do. Be that as it may but isn't it to our own advantage to take a few leaves out of that which they do. We all have a duty to our family, a duty to our friends, a duty to our God, a duty to ourselves, but remember that we also have a duty to our society.
Well, a post that started out on a lighter note took on a whole new meaning which I never intended to take. Maybe this is why I can't bring myself to write a post so easily. It finally ended up as a superficial analysis of one of the best and most annoying TV series ever. We all love it and we all hate it. What the hell is that black curling smoke which makes a noise like a running motor anyway? If it has been revealed what it is please refrain from telling me 'cos I haven't started watching the 4th season yet. I hope its been answered by this time, atleast!!
Until later.

Thanks da sumanth ji. Thanks for the encouragement.
Peskipiksi pesternomi...haha...I knew that question would arise. Being a loyal Harry Potter fan as I am, it is one of the lesser known spells. It actually doesn't do anything. It's a sham spell invented by Gilderoy Lockhart.
All the other spells were taken up so I had to settle for this one :P
Oh ok...I dont follow harry potter man
